Monday 2 November saw the launch of ‘Movember’ at RGU.
The event took place in the Sir Ian Wood Atrium, and various societies and groups – including Fit for the Future – were represented. Free tea, coffee and sandwiches were kindly sponsored by Aramark. Lots of students and staff visited, and some were lucky enough to have their photograph taken with the Movember Moustaches!
The event kicks off a month long campaign to raise awareness of men’s health issues. RGU are taking a two pronged approach, and will be looking at not just physical health issues such as testicular and prostate cancer, but also mental wellness, including depression. Men are a historically ‘hard to reach’ group when it comes to health and wellbeing, and Movember aims to stamp out this stigma and educate men that its ok to talk about their problems.
Watch out for lots of moustaches appearing across campus! You can check out how the RGU network is getting on, and see a leaderboard of donations here. You can also donate online to your chosen MoBro.
To ensure there is something for everyone, you can also sign up to ‘Move-ember’ if you choose not to – or cannot, in the case of the ladies! – grow a moustache. Move-ember encourages people to ‘move’ – take part in 30 minutes of physical activity – each day during November. You can sign up via the link above.
